The 7 Principles of Health

Ever since I learned about the 7 Principles of Health from the wise Don Tolman and started to embrace this ancient wisdom, my life has changed for the better! Everything I do now is based around these principles and I incorporate them into my daily routine.

So here they are…

AIR

I am always encouraging my followers on Instagram to get outside, embrace nature and soak up some oxygen! Ever heard of that saying “walk it off”, well it’s true! If you have a headache, you’re tired, feeling down, go for a walk outside in the fresh air! You’ll feel better after 10 minutes and you’ll start to feel any discomfort fade away. Air oxygenates your blood cells giving you a fresh dose of energy and pretty much breathes life back into you. A lot of people with 9-5 office jobs spend most of their week inside with A/C, breathing in stale air that does not nourish the body. Then after work head to the gym to exercise inhaling more A/C. So it is very important to get out in the fresh air as much as you can, whenever you can. Being outdoors is where you will feel your best!

WATER

Water, I LOVE WATER! I literally drink 3-4 litres a day. Water really is everything when it comes to health. It carries oxygen and nutrients to your cells, flushes out toxicity, keeps bowel movements regular, boosts your metabolism, increases your energy levels, helps promote weight loss and much much more! A lot of people who always feel lethargic, no energy, suffer from constant headaches, have irregular bowel movements, generally have these problems because they are severely de-hydrated. If this sounds like you then you need to up your daily water intake. Try infusing your water with fruit if you get bored of drinking plain water, it still has the same amazing benefits.

SUNSHINE

Who doesn’t love sunshine? Sunshine makes you happy! I love getting out in the sun everyday for at least 20 minutes with a bit of coconut oil on my skin, soaking up the warm rays. It’s one of the best feelings in the world! Getting out into the sun has been proven to curb depression and of course a good dose of natural vitamin D is priceless.

MOVEMENT

Your body was designed to move, it wants to move, so get moving! Moving your body in the form of exercise, walking, stretching, even house cleaning is all highly beneficial to your health. Regular physical activity has been proven to prevent and manage a range of health problems. It is a great way to release stress or change a bad mood you might be in. When you exercise it stimulates various chemicals in the brain which makes you feel happy and relaxed afterwards. It’s a great energy and confidence booster too.

WHOLE FOODS

Hippocrates stated “Let food be thy medicine, let medicine be thy food” in 376 B.C. Whole foods carry amazing nutrients, enzymes, minerals and vitamins our bodies are designed to digest and use. Eating a whole food based diet keeps your body nourished and energised to live a naturally healthy life and helps build up your natural immune system to fight off illness and disease. I love the saying “you are what you eat” because it is that simple and true. If you eat crap you’re going to feel and look like crap, if you it well you will glow from the inside out. Since I changed my diet and cut out the junk I have never felt so alive and energised, and my skin has never looked better.

LOVING, NON-TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships whether it be, your husband, partner, friend, relative, if they are toxic and negative, they will have a detrimental effect on your health and in most cases feel very draining. It is amazing what is does to your well-being when you have positive loving relationships around you. Loving relationships keep you mentally and emotionally healthy and when you have so much positive energy around it becomes contagious. My sister always tells me “you are the company you keep” and she is right. Surround yourself with loving, non-toxic relationships and you can’t go wrong.

PASSION

It’s so important to find out what it is you are passionate about. For me one of my passion’s is health and sharing the knowledge I have learnt to help others. You can be passionate about many different things, to the music you love, the sports you play or being a big animal lover. Whatever creates a sense of gratitude for being alive, that is passion!

These 7 key principles of health is what will lead you to a truly healthier and happier YOU!
